Introduction to Graphic Design

  • Overview of popular design tools (Canva, Figma, Adobe Illustrator)

Activities:

  • Analyze design examples based on principles

  • Explore Canva and Figma interface

Assessment:
Short quiz on design principles
Create a moodboard using Canva

Week 2:

Color & Typography Basics


Topics:

  • Color theory: color wheel, complementary colors, mood/emotion

  • Color harmony and palette creation

  • Typography: font types (serif, sans serif, script), hierarchy, spacing

  • Create a 3-color brand palette

  • Typography exercise using Google Fonts and Canva

Assessment:
Design a social media graphic applying color and typography rules

Design Tools Deep Dive (Canva & Figma)


Topics:

  • Working with templates, text, images, shapes in Canva

  • Introduction to Figma: frames, components, styles

  • File structure, collaboration, and export options

Activities:

  • Design a flyer in Canva

  • Recreate the same layout in Figma

Assessment:
Submit a branding flyer from Canva and Figma

Branding Fundamentals


Topics:

  • What is a brand? Brand vs brand identity vs logo

  • Elements of branding: tone, colors, logo, typography

  • Understanding audience and positioning

Activities:

  • Brand audit of 2 real companies

  • Create a brand moodboard for a fictional product

Assessment:
Present your moodboard with visual direction and target audience

Logo Design Basics


Topics:

  • Types of logos: wordmark, icon, combination, emblem

  • Logo sketching and concept development

  • Vector basics: creating logos in Illustrator or Figma

  • Build one refined logo digitally

Assessment:
Submit a high-resolution logo file (PDF, PNG, SVG)

Layout & Print Design

  • Layout principles: margins, alignment, white space, grids

  • Designing for print: brochures, posters, business cards

  • Print-ready formats and bleed setup

Assessment:
Submit a brochure design with print specifications

Digital Branding & Social Media Design

  • Designing for digital platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)

  • Consistency in branding across platforms

  • Image optimization, sizes, formats

  • Create branded content templates

Assessment:
Submit branded digital kit including 3 posts and 1 story layout

Final Project & Brand Style Guide


Topics:

  • Creating a brand style guide (logo, fonts, colors, usage rules)

  • Personal branding and building a portfolio

  • Presenting and pitching design work

Activities:

  • Compile a PDF style guide

Assessment:
Final presentation of the brand identity project
Submit a complete style guide in PDF format
